Make your cohort discoverable and connect exposome research across the world

IHEN’s cohort catalogue, also known as the Global exposome cohort catalogue, is an open, searchable catalogue of cohorts with data on environmental exposures and health across the life course. The catalogue helps researchers find cohorts, identify available exposure and health domains, and build new collaborations across regions and populations. More than 180 cohorts from six regions across multiple stages of the life course are already signed up.

Submit your cohort to the catalogue

Why join?

  • Increase the visibility of your cohort internationally
  • Make your data discoverable to researchers looking for specific exposures, populations, or health outcomes
  • Create opportunities for collaboration and multi-cohort research
  • Support research across the full life course, from early life to older age
  • Help address geographical gaps in exposome research, particularly in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Oceania
  • No individual-level data is required to be listed in the catalogue

What we do not ask you to share

The Global exposome cohort catalogue is not a data repository. You do not need to:

  • Transfer individual-level participant data
  • Share identifiable information
  • Commit to a future pooled analysis
  • Give up ownership or governance of your cohort data

Who can participate?

We welcome health-related cohorts with environmental exposure data, including:

  • Population-based cohorts
  • Clinical cohorts
  • Birth and child cohorts
  • Adolescent and adult cohorts
  • Older-age and ageing cohorts
  • Longitudinal cohorts
  • Cohorts with repeated measurements

What happens after registration?

  1. Register your cohort: Complete the metadata form.
  2. We review the information: The IHEN team checks the submitted metadata and may contact you to clarify information.
  3. Your cohort becomes discoverable: Key study-level information can be searched through the catalogue.
  4. Collaboration is optional: Researchers can identify potential cohorts for future collaborative projects. Any data sharing or pooled analysis is discussed separately with participating cohort teams.

The Global exposome cohorts catalogue is developed within the exposome research community and supported through the IHEN and MOLGENIS research infrastructure. The catalogue follows FAIR principles to improve the findability, accessibility, interoperability and reusability of cohort metadata.
